**CE marking** (Conformité Européenne) is the mandatory conformity assessment that declares a product meets the requirements of the applicable European Union directives for sale and use within the EU and EEA. Industrial sonic horns sold into the EU carry CE marking covering — depending on construction and application — the [ATEX directive](/glossary/atex-directive), the Machinery directive, the EMC directive, and where relevant the Pressure Equipment directive.

## What CE marking is and isn't

- **Is** — manufacturer's self-declaration (or notified-body-certified for higher-risk products) of compliance with EU law
- **Is** — a passport for free movement within the EU/EEA
- **Is not** — a quality mark
- **Is not** — proof of country of origin
