CE marking
Also known as CE mark, Conformité Européenne.
CE marking (Conformité Européenne) is the mandatory conformity assessment that declares a product meets the requirements of the applicable European Union directives for sale and use within the EU and EEA. Industrial sonic horns sold into the EU carry CE marking covering — depending on construction and application — the ATEX directive, the Machinery directive, the EMC directive, and where relevant the Pressure Equipment directive.
What CE marking is and isn't
- Is — manufacturer's self-declaration (or notified-body-certified for higher-risk products) of compliance with EU law
- Is — a passport for free movement within the EU/EEA
- Is not — a quality mark
- Is not — proof of country of origin
